Business Simulation. Set up and manage a manufacturing business.  Set financial, market share and business goals.  Consider Growth and niche strategies. Develop competitive advantage. Set operational targets. Execute operational plans.

The key learning’s in this programme are taught around five sets of goal setting processes: market share; business configuration goals; return on assets; return on sales, and return on investment. It explores benchmarking and the requirement to adjust operational plans in light of competition and market conditions.

Between four and six teams each form a manufacturing company and compete with each other. The key learning outcomes in this simulation revolve around goal setting; business planning and using variance to manage outcomes. Each team reports publically and therefore benchmarking is able to be implemented. This also means that the insights are multiplied so as not to apply merely to an individual’s team, but to each team in the simulation.

Participant Materials: a full colour Visual Contextuary that explains and illustrates financial terms; a Participant Manual of circa 48 pages, as well as the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss statements for your Company. Cash flow forecast, and Budget worksheets are also included in this version of the simulation.

Finance For Owners And Managers

Description

Business Simulation. Prepare 12 balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow forecasts, unit pricing, and budgeting tasks. Prepare and utilise ratios: profitability; performance; leverage and market value ratios to make better business decisions. Prepare bank debt applications. Manage debtors.

The key learning’s in this programme are formally taught lessons around Du Pont Accounting; budgeting; cash flow forecasting and an introduction to earnings based multiple valuations.

Each business completes its own exercises in respect to the teaching and applies it each trading month. In this simulation between four and six teams each form: a retail, services, or a manufacturing company and compete with each other on: price; debtor terms; quality and reputation.

The key learning outcomes in this simulation revolve around financial reporting and financial management, including Earnings Per Share and Net Tangible Assets per Share reporting. Each team reports publically and therefore the insights are multiplied so as not to apply merely to an individual’s team, but to each team in the simulation.

Description

This is an applied and structured introduction to the Companies Act, and Directors duties.   It commences with an introduction to the legal structure of a Company as distinct from the sole trader, and Partnership form of business enterprise and explores the limits of the concept of shareholder limited liability.

To ensure appropriate attention to the NZ legal framework two small group exercises are used in relationship to a case study.  The first is a stakeholder identification exercise (Small group exercise – group feedback).  The second is a governance behaviour exercise (Small group exercise plenary session feedback).

Participant Materials: include a colour version of the PowerPoint slide presentation with space for note taking, a word document of the core content, and extracts from Legislation and relevant judgements.

Export

Description:

Exporting literally opens up a world of opportunity for NZ companies, however, very often they are just not export ready.  This programme is focused on Risk identification and Management. It commences with an introduction to sales contracts; agencies, and distributors, before asking you to consider the risks: of political risk; exchange risk; credit risk, and jurisdictional risk.

The programme uses two case studies and introduces the participant to the mitigation of risk through the use of Trade Finance and Foreign Exchange products.

In order to do this it uses a glossary of terms dealing with: Trade Finance Principles; FX basics, and Incoterms. We also introduce the two principle Trade Finance export

Products: Documentary Collections, and the negotiation of Documentary Letters of Credit

Participant Materials: A 90 page colour version of the Power point presentation with room for notes and a word document of the key areas will be provided for participants. Also full copies of the Uniform Rules for Collection and the Uniform Code of Practice for Collections and Documentary Letters of Credit will be provided, as will, Collections templates, a Bills template, and a working capital exercise

Capital Ready Process

Capital Raising

Description:

Is an introduction for investees and investors on basic early stage business capital raisings.  It uses a structured 2 – 3 hour session on the VC valuation model and business basics both in terms of term sheet and due diligence requirements.

This is followed by a private structured questionnaire process to evaluate the current position of an investee or investor (normally 2 -3 hours in private coaching) with a debrief report suggesting critical weaknesses and strengths to allow attention prior to capital raising or investing activity.

Participant Materials: a 20 page workbook, and the questionnaire will be available to participants.

The programme is generally 4 – 5 hours in length over two sessions and is highly individualised.  The cost is $2,000 + GST per person and

includes report writing and further 1 hour debrief session on a subsequent day. Please note this programme is not designed to be run for multiple participants, but is tailored to individual investee’s and investors.

In this fast paced 5 hour business simulation.   Participants become directors and managers of a small manufacturing company and then pit themselves against each other to build a business and prepare all the financials that record their success or failure.

Each company will raise capital; buy assets; and compete primarily on price, and brand recognition.

You will make two business improvement options from five choices; prepare pricing and bids for 4 market rounds and record 4 Profit and Loss statements and Balance sheets that reflect the impact of the business decisions that you make. You will also see how to pay a fully imputed dividend; and see how even a solvent liquidation can destroy value in a business.

Participant Materials: a 54 page workbook and a full colour Visual Contextuary that explains and illustrates financial terms will be available for all participants

Managing A Global Business

Description:

This sophisticated three day business simulation, has it all. Participants need to focus on all aspects of establishing and managing a global business.  There will be a capital raising process and several rounds of business decision making.  This will include consideration of: capex; a green field’s plant expansion, quality improvements, along with just in time and cost reduction strategies.

As there are three export markets as well as the local markets, FX hedging needs to be considered, and it offers real insight into running a large sophisticated business.

On the third day a winner is determined – who gets to acquire another business after preparing a valuation; arranging LBO finance, creating and recording goodwill on acquisition.

Participant Materials: A 148 page work book; as well as the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss statements for your Company will be made available to Participants. Cash flow forecast, and Budget worksheets are also included in this version of the simulation.
