Brewing Industry Whitepaper

Our latest whitepaper looks at the New Zealand brewing industry and its overall performance and scale.

The paper notes that 268 million litres of beer was released into the domestic market in the year to March 2026, which is lower than the peak in 2019 of 295 million litres. Further higher strength craft beer volumes are down around 44% since 2022.

The increase in the beer excise tax of more than 20% over the past five years has also had an impact on margins.

With these growth trends reversing, various forms of consolidation appear to be the next step for the sector.

With that as a backdrop we look at the industry’s transaction history and the strategic options available to owners.

The Best Chip Doesn't Win Anymore. The Bottleneck Does.

Semiconductor M&A has shifted. Buyers are no longer chasing the company with the best chip design. They are paying up for the specialist suppliers that control the bottlenecks in AI infrastructure, from power management and packaging to timing and testing.

The same pattern is showing up across capital heavy industries. Owning hard to replicate technology at a critical constraint point now does more for value and negotiating leverage than scale or profile.
